Pop-up Restaurant: LQ @ Vertical Wine Bistro

Since Dr. Man moved out West, I really wanted to explore the food scene.  I stumbled upon an article about a pop-up restaurant in Pasadena under the guidance of Chef Laurent Quenioux.  I made my date and time selections, with the hopes I would get a call stating that my reservation was confirmed.  After several weeks, I finally received a call.  Despite Dr. Man's busy schedule, he was able to accompany me to this unique dinner experience at Vertical Wine Bistro...

The atmosphere was modern, relaxing, and intimate.  While Dr. Man ordered their Kir Vertical, which consisted of prosecco, St. Germain liquour, and fresh mint, I succumbed to the wine pairings expertly picked by Domaine LA.

The amuse bouche was a Carlsbad oyster, with chicharones, chipotle, and epazote, alongside a black fig pico de gallo.  It was paired with a cava...

The 1st course was my favorite, and I still have daydreams about it.  It was smoked herring, with a ricotta lemon chantilly, Peruvian potato salad, pancetta chips, and smoked gelee.  This memorable dish was paired with a Riesling...

The second course consisted of a skate wing tempura, with lamb chorizo, and squash succotash. The tempura was so light and it was accompanied by a delicious Bianco wine...

The 3rd course was composed of a chestnut rice porridge, porcini, chanterelles, teriyaki pintade hen, with pomegranate seeds.  It was accompanied by a Guimaro Mencia red wine...

Another favorite was Chef LQ's wild Scottish hare pie, with pickled huckleberries, accompanied by their final pairing of the night, Poivre et Sel...

Their dessert was a masterpiece.  Dr. Man and I stared for a few minutes before we devoured the dish.  It was a delicious arrangement of lychee cremeux, passion fruit glaze, vanilla froyo, cherry granita, blood orange caramel, and cookie crumble...

While we didn't indulge in their cheese cart, and enjoyed some courses more than others, it truly was a memorable experience we will never forget!
