Pop-up Restaurant: LQ @ Vertical Wine Bistro

Since Dr. Man moved out West, I really wanted to explore the food scene.  I stumbled upon an article about a pop-up restaurant in Pasadena under the guidance of Chef Laurent Quenioux.  I made my date and time selections, with the hopes I would get a call stating that my reservation was confirmed.  After several weeks, I finally received a call.  Despite Dr. Man's busy schedule, he was able to accompany me to this unique dinner experience at Vertical Wine Bistro...




The atmosphere was modern, relaxing, and intimate.  While Dr. Man ordered their Kir Vertical, which consisted of prosecco, St. Germain liquour, and fresh mint, I succumbed to the wine pairings expertly picked by Domaine LA.




The amuse bouche was a Carlsbad oyster, with chicharones, chipotle, and epazote, alongside a black fig pico de gallo.  It was paired with a cava...




The 1st course was my favorite, and I still have daydreams about it.  It was smoked herring, with a ricotta lemon chantilly, Peruvian potato salad, pancet…

Ole Tapas Lounge & Restaurant, DE

Like I stated in my last post, there are some restaurants that I frequently visit with family and friends to unwind, have great conversations, and delicious food.  My father and I stumbled upon this restaurant one early afternoon before my move.  We wanted to try something different before heading back home to finish packing.  Ole Tapas Lounge & Restaurant passed us on the left and we decided to make a u-turn at the light ahead.  The inside of the restaurant was so warm and inviting, we couldn't wait to see the menu...




I started with a delicious cocktail and ordered the following tapas for us to enjoy:  scallop duo; pulpo; albondigas; costillas y queso frito; and tempura cauliflower.




The scallop duo consists of scallop and shrimp ceviche.  The seared scallop is served over a fried green tomato, with a piquillo syrup...





The pulpo is composed of grilled octopus and grilled potatoes...




The albondigas consists of lamb meatballs...




The costilla y queso frito is one of my favorites.…
